Clarksville police are seeking a man suspected of robbery and assault.
Law enforcement officials said the man assaulted and robbed an elderly woman after breaking into her home. The woman, 84 years old, reported that her assailant grabbed her from behind, pushing her on the floor during the assault.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 just as she came home from doing some grocery shopping. Her assailant allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not stay lying on her stomach or tried to get a glimpse of what he looked like.
He reportedly demanded cash and made a remark concerning drugs. He took cash from her as well as her checkbook after forcing her to empty the contents of her purse, according to police.
She was subsequently forced to go into the bathroom. Once there, she stated, the robber made her lay down again, closing the bathroom door and then barricading it shut with a couch placed in front of it before he made his escape.
Witnesses who claimed to have seen a man fleeing from the premises later gave police a description. Officers were summoned to the home when the elderly woman called them after managing to get out of the bathroom.
In an apparent unrelated investigation, Clarksville police officers arrested a woman under a warrant for alleged aggravated burglary after they discovered that various items taken from a home on her street were discovered online after she pawned them. The property taken was valued at approximately $2,000. The burglary reportedly occurred on either Jan. 20 or 21.
