Clarksville police recently arrested two men on charges stemming from the armed robbery of a U.S. Bank branch located at 3301 Fort Campbell Blvd.

The robbery took place just before nine in the morning when a pair of men entered the bank, brandishing handguns and wearing gloves.

They were also wearing what witnesses described as camouflage clothes, and partially covered their faces in an attempt to avoid identification.

Following their seizure of funds from bank tellers' drawers, the men required employees on the premises to go into the bank's vault.

There were no customers present in the bank at the time of the robbery, and no employees suffered injuries.

Witnesses reported that the men were then seen fleeing the scene in a black SUV equipped with a luggage rack and tinted windows.

A police officer subsequently stopped a black GMC Envoy as it was traveling east on Interstate 24 near mile marker 12.

The vehicle belongs to the grandparents of one of the two men arrested.

Both arrestees are 31 years old.

Officials claim that a search of the vehicle by the officer uncovered a black semi-automatic handgun, as well as clothing fitting the description of that worn by the men in the bank.

After additional officers arrived on the scene, a number of bags were also found inside the car, with one of them containing cash.

Charges of aggravated robbery were lodged against one of the suspects shortly after he was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. The other arrestee would have charges filed against him after he was also transported to the jail and booked, according to published reports.
